Located at the edge of Republic Square in Malé, the Old Presidential Jetty—often referred to as Jetty No. 1 or the Izzuddin Jetty—stands as a timeless landmark reflecting the political and architectural history of the Maldives. Originally built in the 1950s during the presidency of Mohamed Amin Didi, the jetty has long served as the ceremonial landing point for presidents, foreign dignitaries, and state guests.
What sets this jetty apart is its blend of traditional Maldivian design with national symbolism. The wooden roof structure, coral-stone pillars, and intricate detailing echo the craftsmanship of local boat-building and mat-weaving traditions. Over the decades, the jetty has undergone several renovations—most notably under President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and again in 2024.
Today, the Old Presidential Jetty remains a quiet yet powerful icon in the capital’s busy harbor—bridging past and present, ceremony and civic pride.
